Shields, Frederick James. Illustrations of Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress. London. Simpkin & Marshall. 1875.
A superb and scarce piece of Bunyaniana and beautifully preserved. Frederick James Shields was a prominent pre-raphaelite artist whose works command whopping sums; a study in pencil just sold for over $15,000.00 and his canvases can fetch over $100,000.00. This is a simply beautiful production.
Fine condition with only very slightest wear, large format, near folio, in original publisher’s cloth with beveled boards. These etchings are of the very finest quality with illustrated initials housing scenes from Bunyan, larger etchings, etc. all separated by tissue guards.
We’ve only ever seen this one other time and it was at nearly double our asking price.
