William Crabtree was converted during the Great Awakening under William Grimshaw of Haworth, but joined the Baptists in the 1750's. He founded a work in Leeds, Ebenezer Chapel, where he influenced a young John Fawcett to join the Baptists; the church became a training ground for young Baptist ministers leaving the Baptist Academy at Bristol. The present work shows what is the true prosperity of a Gospel church, which he seems to equate generally with non-conformists and specifically with the Baptists, though emphasizing personal piety and the interior life of Christ in the community.
