The Marvin Watch Company was founded in 1850 by Marc and Emmanuel Didisheim in Saint-Imier. In 1894 the company moved to La Chaux-de-Fonds.
In 1917 the three grandsons of the original founder Marc Didisheim took over the company. Despite moving predominantly towards wristwatches, the production of fine manufacture movements was maintained. Besides their own movements, Marvin also used Rolex movements for a short period.
From 1940 the company began alliances with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Ferrari, Mercedes, Jaguar, Fiat, MG, Rover, and Chevrolet. By 1950, at their 100-year anniversary, Marvin would enjoy a global distribution network that stretched across 70 countries.
What’s On Offer
This rare Marvin watch with its beautiful three, large register chronograph dial is simply charming to a fault. The original silver dial is in superb condition with applied gilt Arabic numerals on the hour and ultra-slim gilt pencil hands. All of the dial furniture, including dished subdials, outer scales, and Marvin signature at 12 o'clock, are well maintained and crisp.
The nickel-plated case, which is in excellent order, and curved lugs, have svelte lines which showcase the dial beautifully, giving the illusion of a larger wearing watch. The crown and pushers are in keeping with the subtle proportions, these ergonomic elements combined make for a very comfortable wearing timepiece with all the charm one would expect from a watch of this vintage, with the added bonus of the legendary Valjoux 72 movement!
