Clean both mating surfaces with a wire brush to remove carbon buildup and old gasket material. A clean, flat surface improves sealing. You don't need to sand or prime — just scrape it bare.

Can I reuse the original bolts, or do I need new ones?

Reuse is fine if the bolts are straight and threads are clean. If any bolts spun or won't torque consistently, replace them. Refer to your service manual for the correct torque spec.
