Classy Vintage Eterna-Matic Kontiki Date with Lovely Tropical Dial and Original Gay Freres Bracelet

Eterna Watches, a renowned Swiss luxury watch brand, has a fascinating history that spans over 160 years. Founded in 1856 by Urs Schild and Joseph Girard, the company initially began as a small watchmaking workshop in Grenchen, Switzerland. Throughout the years, Eterna Watches became known for its innovative designs and exceptional craftsmanship. In 1905, the brand introduced one of its most significant inventions - the revolutionary EternaMatic movement. This self-winding mechanism set new standards in precision and reliability and became an industry benchmark. The Eterna-Matic Kontiki was named after the famous 1947 journey across the Pacific Ocean by Raft from South America to the Polynesian Islands led by the Norwegian writer and explorer Thor Heyerdahl. The raft in question was named the Kontiki after the Inca god Viracocha.

This is an exceptional Eterna-Matic Kontiki that has aged beautifully with time. As seen from the photos, the dial on this watch has weathered to a lovely patina, giving it a splash of character. This ageing process is completely normal depending on the climate the watch has been kept in and only gives more of a vintage Look. Also on the face, you can see chrome hour markers and hands as well as a date window.

The stainless steel case sits at just over 36mm making it the perfect size for a classy dress watch. Being this old the watch has most likely received a light polish at some point in its life as the case is remarkably shiny and in exceptional condition. The only visible wear is on the underside of the watch and caseback. Another great thing about this watch is the original Gay Freres bracelet which is also in amazing condition. Gay Freres is a renowned manufacturer that has produced bracelets for the likes of Patek Phillipe and is known for their exceptional quality.
