Eberhard & Co manufacture was founded in 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the historic birthplace of the Swiss watchmaking industry, by George-Emile Eberhard. Eberhard was the son of a prominent Bernese family tracing its origins back to the 10th century, which was involved in the development of the Swiss watchmaking industry. His father, early on, initiated him in the art of watchmaking and Eberhard was only 22 when he founded the company.
An authentic Eberhard Pre-Extra-Fort watch, with a rare and beautiful vintage 'newsprint' dial, in charming condition with a peppering of attractive patina.
The 18k solid rose gold hinged case measures a substantial 40mm - very sizeable for the time this watch was produced! The case is fitted with an oval start/stop/reset chronograph button at 2 and an oval slide to stop/restart the chronograph without resetting the recorded time at 4.
The (originally) ivory dial is signed by Eberhard & Co and marked Swiss-made. The hour plots have baton markers and the watch also features an outer telemeter scale and inner spiral tachymeter scale, two sunken engine-turned subsidiary dials for constant seconds and 30 minutes register.
This is a beautiful vintage watch suitable for all occasions from everyday wear to more formal occasions - an all-rounder with a touch of opulence.
