Hemp has long been regarded as a sacred material in Japan. It has been used in rituals and as decoration, and can also be split into fine strands for use as cord. This natural hemp is produced in Tochigi Prefecture.
This bundle of hemp fibres is a natural material valued for its strength and organic texture. It is suitable for a wide range of uses, including gardening (tying supports, training plants), handcrafts (making ropes, wrapping, knitting), DIY (decorations and accessories), and camping (as fire starter), etc.
[About Okaimafu]
Founded in 1863 in Nara Prefecture, Okai Mafu is a fifth-generation, family-run company. The region has long been known for Nara Sarashi, a traditional hemp fabric that is handwoven and carefully crafted. Today, Okai Mafu remains one of the few makers preserving these time-honoured techniques from the Edo period.
