Should I paint before or after installation?

Paint before installation. Sand and prep the surface, apply your chosen primer and topcoat, then install once dry. This prevents overspray on other body panels and allows you to properly mask and blend the edges.

The cover arrived slightly warped from shipping — is it defective?

No. Polyurethane can flex during transport. Place the cover in direct sunlight for 30–60 minutes to allow the material to relax and return to its original shape before installation or finishing work.
