The Omega Seamaster 30, a classic and understated timepiece, boasts a rich history that traces back to its inception in the 1960s. Born out of Omega's illustrious Seamaster line, which was originally launched in 1948, the Seamaster 30 was designed to offer a more simplistic and elegant approach to timekeeping, diverging from the line's predominantly sporty and robust characteristics. Unlike its Seamaster siblings renowned for their dive watch capabilities, the Seamaster 30 did not feature water resistance as a primary selling point.
Instead, it focused on precision and reliability, powered by manual-wind movements like the calibres 286 or 287, known for their accuracy and durability. With a modest case size typically around 35mm, it catered to those seeking a more refined accessory suitable for everyday wear. The "30" in its name refers not to water resistance or any specific technical specification but is thought to denote the watch's positioning as an entry-level mechanical timepiece within the Omega range.
It presented an affordable yet high-quality option for consumers aspiring to own a piece of the prestigious Omega legacy without delving into their more complex or sport-oriented models. The dial of the Seamaster 30 is celebrated for its minimalist elegance; clean lines, simple hour markers, and an absence of date windows contribute to its timeless appeal
What's on Offer
I mean, how stunning? I've said it before and I'll say it again, you simply cannot go wrong with a vintage Omega and this is a showstopper. Just look at that linen dial and particularly combined with the gold, a beautiful piece indeed. The dial is in fantastic condition with gold baton hour indexes with luminous pips and corresponding gold pencil hands with luminous inserts. There is also a needle central seconds hand rotating on the central pinion. The dial is completed by an applied Omega emblem and encapsulated underneath Plexiglas. The Hippocampus is present on the caseback as all Seamasters since 1958 have, there are a couple of scratches on the caseback, you can note them in our photographs.
At 35mm, it is a slender mid-sized piece, but it wears larger on the wrist due to it's slim gold plated bezel. The watch is in fantastic shape, running well and keeping good time and is paired with a stylish soft leather strap with an Omega buckle. We don't expect a rare linen dial like this to be around for long.
