Found hanging in a bedroom of the house we recently purchased, this rather elegant mid/late 1940s satin house coat or dressing gown. With floral upper and black satin ‘skirts’.

Wide cuffs, heavily gathered shoulder seams and huge shoulder pads - it’s a really square shouldered look to make your waist tiny! Fastens with coordinating waist tie, and could be worn as a dressing gown or even as an evening coat over a satin slip dress?

Label is the ‘eleven o eleven’ or better-line-than-utility denoting more luxurious, non restricted manufacture post war. Also labelled with a 46 , so a good modern size.

Not perfect but structurally very good, cleaned and ready to wear. Please see description - priced as is.

Hips 46 laid flat along seams, but flexible as no front closure

Length from nape to hem approx 55” (nape to waist 16, waist to hem 39)

Condition: 

Structurally sound. I have soaked and hand washed the garment successfully. The colours do not run so you can happily do so in future, I used lukewarm water with a little white vinegar and hand wash liquid.. you could try further soaks on the foxing, I just wasn’t able to occupy the bath permanently!

The issues are minor foxing throughout the floral satin upper, and some scuff marks to the black satin skirt - worst as shown, to the lower right side.
There is a small mark to the left shoulder back on the floor satin – see photos. Otherwise it is perfectly wearable.. just not perfect.
