This traditional, handwoven garment, known as a huipil, originates from Guatemala. The huipil is a traditional Mayan tunic, and this particular style, features a colorful woven top section and a plain white bottom, is associated with communities such as San Juan Sacatepéquez or Quetzaltenango. Historically, the unique patterns and colors served as markers of regional identity and social status within the community. Pulls on overhead with a V neckline. Rectangular shapes, it creates half length sleeves when on. Unlined.
Note the figurative scenes along the neckline with one side featuring a cat (dressed in clothing) and bird, while the other side depicts two children, one holding a balll and the other maybe lanterns (?). No label. Handmade. Unisex.
