These vintage circa 1930s earrings by Coro are done in an Etruscan revival meets Art Deco style. They are plated in gold and have the beautiful, rich look of solid gold. These are full of handmade details that are no longer found in costume jewelry. The dangling bars provide movement, and the millegrain details on the border are exceptional. Signed "Coro," these are clip-on earrings with a screw-back.

A bit of history on this architectural style: The Etruscan civilization thrived in Western Italy from 700 – 300 BC. They were thoroughly fond of jewelry (they mummified the deceased and buried them in jewels). The Etruscans were eventually conquered by the Romans, and for centuries, their history was largely unappreciated, and uncredited for its influence on modern Italy (and jewelry!). That is, until Etruscan tombs were discovered and opened in the late 19th century. In decades that followed, “Etruscomania” greatly influenced design, including the wildly different Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. It also sparked a style of its own, referred to as “Etruscan Revival.” These earrings are from this very period, when Etruscan Revival was still spreading its influence to the new Art Deco movement.
