African Couple carved in Ebony wood pair of statuettes.

The woman and man are detailed with remarkable artistry, resulting in life-like busts enhanced by ebony's natural grain. Each sculpture is carved by hand in the Central African Republic.

These African figurines were formerly used in homes to communicate the mood and especially to manage conflicts. The couple looks at each other, face to face, saying that everything is fine, "we are together". When a misunderstanding occurred, the partner who felt offended returned either one face or both, depending on the message to be passed. This initiative to make these objects speak were perceived as a call to dialogue or better a cry for help.
