Dressing the likes of Ginger Rogers, Audrey Hepburn, Annie Giradot, Princess Salimah Aga Khan, Princess Soraya, Princess Paola (now Queen) of Belgium and Sylvana Mangano. Pino Lancetti, who has died aged 78, began his career in high Roman fashion in the 1950s, when it was designed by artists, made by craftspeople and worn by a minute coterie of the grand; by the time he departed from couture in 2001, his name was a brand and fashion was a major Italian export industry.
