Using the traditional handmade Japanese washi papers with unique patterns, this is a thin square cushion that is both extremely durable and comfortable to sit on.
The paper used for this cushion is "Yatsuo Washi", which is a traditional handicraft from Toyama Prefecture. It is strong, durable, capable of being shaped into any shapes and products. Although it is paper, this particular washi paper is very strong. It has been treated to be water repellent, so it won't get dirty easily, and you don't have to worry even if it gets wet. If you have pets in your home, this cushion is also excellent because, unlike fabric, hair does not stick to the surface, which makes it easy to clean.
This cushion will play a role as part of the interior design accentuating the space in your home or workspace. Whether you have a Japanese style or Scandinavian decor, the simple and unique design of this cushion will blend in magically. For example, this cushion goes really well on a concrete bench, wooden chair or with the famous Wishbone Chair (CH24) designed by Hans J. Wegner.
The founder of Keijusha, Keisuke Yoshida played an important role to revive traditional papermaking in Japan. His paper products were highly praised by Mingei leader Muneyoshi Yanagi, prompting the development of a type of washi (used by famed Mingei textile designer Keisuke Serizawa) that wouldn't tear even when wet. Yoshida studied stencil dyeing and design directly from Keisuke Serizawa, enabling him to produce outstanding washi-paper items. His sense of aesthetics still lives vividly on throughout Toyama, while making Toyama a more beautiful place.
