This Sharella coat has two labels and both of them matter. The first reads: under Five-Foot-Four by Sharella, Made in New Zealand. The second, stitched into the facing, reads: Miracle Prima, super broadcloth, made in England. Together they tell you everything about how seriously New Zealand fashion took itself in the 1960s, when local makers chose their cloth with care and cut their coats for real women with unique bodies.
The coat is a classic A-line in deep black broadcloth, falling to midi length with a clean, easy sweep through the body. The collar is warm brown fur, wide and generous at the neckline, adding the kind of detail that makes a coat feel genuinely luxurious. Button front closure with small matching black buttons at the cuffs. Side seam pockets. Fully lined throughout in a dark satin. The whole thing has that particular quality of mid-century outerwear: dense, structured fabric that holds its shape season after season.
Wear it over a charcoal or camel roll-neck and a slim black skirt. Or throw it on over a printed silk dress in deep rust and amber. It works just as well over wide-leg tailored trousers and a crisp white blouse as it does over a simple knit dress and boots. This coat goes with almost everything you already own in your autumn and winter wardrobe.
Everything else is in very good condition, commensurate with age and love. Keen to try it on? Visit The Aviary and make your booking [here](https://paintedbird.nz/pages/welcome-to-the-aviary).
