A ringer style t-shirt featuring ex Velvet Underground vocalist and guitarist, Lou Reed.
New York-based singer/songwriter Lou Reed is most famous in the pop-mainstream for his hits ‘Walk on The Wild Side’ & ‘Perfect Day’ . He was also a founder member of The Velvet Underground, regarded as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the late 1960s. They were adopted by pop-artist Andy Warhol who incorporated their live performances into his Exploding Plastic Inevitable multi-media show. They were notorious for their espousal of the seedier side of NY city life; Reed’s themes of sex, sado-masochism, drug-abuse & decadence pepper much of their work. Not the best of musicians, their wild experimentation & contempt for the mainstream endeared them to later developments such as Punk & the New Wave.
Reed’s solo career followed a split from the band in 1970. He recorded his debut album, ‘Lou Reed’ in London, UK. Commercial recognition followed in 1973 with the release of the David Bowie/Mick Ronson- produced ‘Transformer’. Interest however, waned upon the follow-up album ‘Berlin’ which critics dubbed too depressing.
Reed has since continued to explore various musical genres & collaborations; using elements of poetry, folk, classical, jazz & electronica. He continues to tour, whilst collaborating with other artists in film & theatrical events.
(Notable albums: The Velvet Underground (1st album) Transformer, Berlin, Coney Island Baby, The Blue Mask & Street Hassle)
