Vintage late 30s to early 40s rayon crepe dress with bold brown velvet stripes, drop waist with attached ties, lightly padded puff sleeve, and darling gold metal buttons on the sleeve and down the back.  Although the tag is missing, it is similar to other Carole King fashions in the wild.  See image of a Carole King fashion show in Minnesota in 1940!

Condition

Fair to good, with some light staining throughout.  The most notable is a dark spot with a light ring around it near the hemline at the front of the skirt (see image).  There are several other faint stains in the skirt and on the collar (see images).  Otherwise there are a couple minor snags and a discrepancy in the weave of the material on the front bodice that appears as a dark-ish line (see images).  Lastly, there are some loose decorative threads on one of the brown stripes (see image), some armpit water stains that are most visible under the arm cuff the the arm is lifted up (see images), and faint color fade on the shoulder tops that was too faint to photograph.  Presents well.
