The Omega Speedmaster, introduced in 1957, was originally designed as a racing chronograph. It gained iconic status in 1969 when it became the first watch worn on the Moon during NASA’s Apollo 11 mission. Chosen for its precision and durability, it earned the nickname “Moonwatch.” Over the decades, the Speedmaster evolved through various models and innovations while retaining its classic design. Today, it's celebrated as a symbol of space exploration and mechanical watchmaking excellence.
What's on Offer
We’re pleased to offer this impressive Omega Speedmaster Rattrapante, reference 3540.50.00, powered by the Calibre 3600A automatic movement with 28 jewels. Housed in a substantial 42mm stainless steel case, this watch delivers both presence and performance. The striking black dial features contrasting silver sub-dials, bold luminous hands, and a vibrant red-tipped split-seconds (rattrapante) hand, offering both style and split-time functionality. The bezel is fitted with a fixed tachymetre scale and the sapphire crystal is in excellent condition.
Functionally rich, this piece features a central chronograph hand, a 30-minute counter, a 12-hour counter, and the rare split-seconds complication — all operated via the additional pusher at 10 o’clock. The integrated steel bracelet is solid and secure, showing only light signs of wear consistent with careful use.
In very good pre-owned condition, this example is sold with its original Omega box and undated paperwork, making it a complete and collectable package for the Speedmaster enthusiast.
