In the late 70s, the previous supplier of watches to the MOD, Hamilton, was struggling due to the Quartz crisis and pulled out of supplying military watches. An enterprising employee of Hamilton (Ray Mellor), recognised there was still a demand from the MoD for these watches and he established CWC (Cabot Watch Company) to meet it, and essentially pick up where Hamilton left off.

Using the same components and Swiss suppliers as Hamilton, CWC began supplying pretty much the same watch as the Hamilton W10 with CWC replacing the Hamilton signature. CWC would go on to become one of the most famous suppliers of British military watches.

Issued in 1977, this CWC W10 is a classic example of a British military watch, likely worn during the later years of a soldier’s service. Despite its age, the watch has been well-preserved and shows clear signs of careful use.

Housed in a solid stainless steel case that bears only minor wear from its years of duty, the watch retains its rugged charm and authenticity. The crisp black dial is adorned with clean white Arabic numerals, maintaining excellent legibility — a signature feature of military-issued timepieces.

The original tritium lume on the hands and hour plots has aged to a soft, creamy vanilla tone, adding warmth and vintage character to the stark monochrome layout. The iconic triangle at 12 o'clock sits just above the CWC logo, while the military "broad arrow" at 6 o'clock confirms its Ministry of Defence origins.

This piece is powered by a reliable hand-wound movement and remains in good running condition, ready for wear. Paired with a grey NATO-style strap that complements the dial and military aesthetic, this watch remains both functional and full of history.
