This shirtwaist style blouse is made of the thinnest and finest ivory color silk, with grey vertical stripe banding. The high style neck buttons all the way up with small round composite buttons (& silk button loops) and the full length sleeves end in button-up cuffs. The overall condition is good, still wearable -with care- but there are some issues to note. Someone has gone in with repair 'tape' and patches tot ry to strengthen some of the weakened areas. I removed as much of this as possible, but has to leave some in place, for fear of damaging the garment. The upper shoulders and back were very weakened, so I went in with crepeline (a super transparent and thin silk used by museum preservationists and conservators, in textiles) to stabilize these areas. The cuffs were, unfortunately, damaged enough that I ended up doubling, or folding each one in half, stitched in place, to help strengthen them. There were no original cuff buttons present, so I replaced them with antique, carved shell buttons. The original collar stays are missing (little wire things), as well as the top button at center front closure, and one silk loop has worn apart. There are a few pinhead size holes throughout. Again, this is still a wearable blouse, and an early R.H.Macy & Co.
