These Japanese wax candles are made entirely from plant-derived materials, wax, wick, and colour. Kusaki candles are dyed using natural plant pigments, inspired by colours rooted in Japan’s history and landscape.
Japan’s four distinct seasons reveal a constantly shifting palette of natural tones. Within this environment, colour has long been a form of expression, seen in traditional kimono and ukiyo-e prints. Kusaki candles continue this sensibility, drawing from plant-based dyes inspired by pigments that may have existed in the richly colored Edo period.

Japanese wax candles (warosoku) are crafted from plant-based haze wax, pressed from the fruit of the haze tree. Compared to paraffin candles, they produce minimal smoke, soot, and odour, and are less prone to dripping. Their thick wick creates a steady, softly flickering flame with a calm presence.
The hollow-core wick allows air to flow through the candle, letting the flame gently sway and softly crackle even in stillness. This movement carries a natural “1/f fluctuation,” also found in flowing water and ocean waves, known for its calming effect on mind and body.
What we offer is not an object, but a moment of light.
Like cherry blossoms, the beauty of a warosoku flame lies in its impermanence. It becomes a quiet gift of memory and intention, given for birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or moments of remembrance.
Instead of an object, we invite you to give the time of light.
