The Rolex Air-King is a distinguished timepiece with a rich history that dates back to the late 1940s. Introduced as part of Rolex's "Air" series, it was created to honour the British Royal Air Force pilots of World War II. Known for its robust design and legible dial, the Air-King quickly became a favourite among aviators and watch enthusiasts alike.
    
In 1958, Rolex officially launched the Air-King reference 5500, a model that would remain in production for over 30 years. This iteration featured a simple, elegant design with a clean dial and durable Oyster case. Subsequent updates brought gradual enhancements, including improved movements and water resistance.

You cannot go far wrong with a classic vintage Air King from Rolex, chic, elegant and understated whilst remaining faultlessly reliable.  This is a fine example in stainless steel with a stunning silver sunburst dial boasting applied steel furniture baton hour markers with luminous pips, pencil hands with luminous inserts and  a date function.

The dial is in wonderful condition and is completed by the synonymous Rolex coronet at 12 o'clock. The stainless steel also looks well but does bear signs of previous wear, however, nothing we wouldn't expect to see on a watch of this age. You could choose to have it polished should you so wish.
