This trivet is made from a round slice of paulownia wood. Paulownia wood is lightweight and heat-resistant, so it can be used to place hot teapots, kettles, and even piping hot earthenware pots such as Donabe. Also excellent to place under a flower vase or a plant pot. 

Available in three sizes: large, medium, and small. The rustic texture of natural wood and its honest form create a comforting appearance. Crafted from heat-resistant paulownia wood with just the right thickness, it can be used safely even with piping hot pots and pans. The surface is annealed to prevent burns, and it's lightweight and can be hung up for storage when not in use, making it an extremely practical trivet. The sides are smoothly carved, making it pleasant to the touch, and the texture will improve with use over time.

[What is Kiri?]
Kiri (桐) is a Japanese word for paulownia wood. Paulownia is the lightest wood found in Japan, and it has the unusual characteristic of being resistant to moisture while also being resistant to fire. Taking advantage of these properties, it has been widely used for chests of drawers, rice boxes, and other boxes used to store high-quality valuables (pottery, silk , etc.), as well as for a wide range of everyday items such as koto and geta sandals.

This product is handcrafted in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture.  Their paulownia crafts have a unique dark surface that has been burned and polished using the traditional techniques. This particular finish requires more effort than usual, as each piece is burned, the soot is removed, and then polished. With this finish, the beautiful grain of the wood becomes even more pronounced. The flame-resistant paulownia becomes even more durable, making discolouration and stains less noticeable.
