This garment is dyed using natural pigments extracted from Fukugi trees native to Amami Oshima, Japan. The mordanting process includes traditional mud dyeing using iron-rich mud from the island’s ancient 1.5 million-year-old soil strata. Due to the use of natural dyes, slight variations, uneven tones, or dye pooling may occur, making each piece uniquely expressive. With wear and time, the plant and mud dye will continue to soften and develop a rich, lived-in character. Colour fading is a natural part of this process.
