The beauty of many narrow gauge railways is that they could be set up in a matter of weeks, allowing changes to lines or infrastructure – or the moving of the entire railway in the case of the wartime trench railway systems – with little or no notice. As a result, many of the buildings used on narrow gauge lines were relatively simple in their concept and this Corrugated Engine Shed is testament to that. With its corrugated sides and roof and two doors bolted on, this would have been a quick and cheap structure to build – and take down again too, if the requirement ever arose – whilst still providing much needed shelter for the locomotives it housed.
